Well September blew by and now were are rolling straight into October! Bring on the football and sweaters! Each Sunday I grade papers, plan for the week ahead, and watch the 49ers lose. On Monday mornings, several students remember to tell me how terribly my team played and we talk all about the Patriots instead. This is how we build our classroom community. We relate to one another in all sorts of ways and we love to include humor. Whether it's a weekend soccer game, a play date with our friend, or a movie we watched, we are becoming a classroom full of positive friendships.
This is what's been going on in Room 12!
In reading, students are learning how to use reading strategies to navigate non-fiction texts. We are learning that good readers question the text and make inferences when they come across unknown words. We will continue to build our toolkit with new reading strategies for a few more weeks.
Students are blowing me away with their writing. We have been practicing the skills of focusing on a single moment in time and writing with precise showing details. Students are also learning how to give feedback to their peers. Watching this process makes me a very proud teacher. While you are visiting for Back to School Night, take a peak inside your student's desk and read a little bit from their writer's notebooks.
We have started off our math journey with place value and rounding. We are showing true perseverance and grit in math! Each day, students are eager to learn new skills and strategies and they truly love sharing their math thinking with one another.
I look forward to what the rest of this month holds and making new memories with this bunch of learners!
